Site Engineer
Minimum Requirements:
- BTech or BEng Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 5+ years of maintenance engineering experience in the chemical/glass industry.
- Code 08 or higher driver's licence.
- Siemens SCADA / PLC troubleshooting knowledge is an
advantage. - Excellent computer proficiency e.g. Word, Excel, SAP, etc.
- Knowledge of the OSH Act, Environmental laws, and ISO 9001 systems.
- Understanding of leadership, people management, and HR/IR systems & processes.
- Solid Engineering Knowledge & skills, including Electrical & Instrumentation.
- Furnace rebuild and hot repair experience highly advantageous.
- Financial and budget management knowledge.
- Project Management knowledge.
- Experience with computer-based engineering systems.
Responsibilities:
- Lead site maintenance team and oversee performance.
- Mentor R&M staff, identify skill gaps, and implement training.
- Manage site assets and spare parts.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 for maintenance.
- Develop and improve engineering information systems (e.g., ePAC).
- Monitor and manage contractor performance.
- Initiate projects to reduce energy use, CO2 emissions, and waste.
- Ensure compliance with SA engineering regulations and PQ standards.
- Assist in developing local EHS standards.
- Embed EHS compliance in R&M activities.
- Manage site security and implement 5S standards.
- Train emergency teams and lead continuous improvement from EHS audits.
- Investigate incidents and perform root cause analyses (RCAs).
- Set and monitor targets for self and team.
- Provide constructive feedback for development.
- Identify skill gaps and implement training.
- Cultivate a Can Do culture and enforce disciplinary procedures as needed.
- Develop and manage annual maintenance budget and capital expenditure plan.
- Create a 5-year capital program.
- Assist with IT systems.
- Support implementation of new ISO standards for the site.
