Intermediate SQL Administrator

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Database Administration and Maintenance:
    Overseeing the installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of SQL Server instances, including patching, updates, and regular health checks.
  • Performance Tuning and Optimization:
    Monitoring database performance, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing solutions such as index optimization, query tuning, and capacity planning to ensure efficient data flow and application responsiveness.
  • High Availability and Disaster Recovery:
    Designing, implementing, and managing high availability solutions (e.g., AlwaysOn Availability Groups, replication, log shipping) and disaster recovery strategies, including regular backups, restores, and recovery plan testing.
  • Security and Compliance:
    Enforcing database security policies, managing user access and permissions, and ensuring compliance with relevant data security standards and regulations.
  • Collaboration and Support:
    Working closely with development teams, infrastructure teams, and other IT professionals to support application development, data integration, and system upgrades.
  • Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution:
    Proactively identifying and resolving database-related incidents and performance issues, often within defined service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Mentorship and Guidance:
    Providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior DBAs and other team members.
  • Strategic Planning:
    Contributing to the development of database architecture strategies and aligning database management practices with overall business objectives and technology roadmaps.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • BSc Computer Science or similar qualification (advantageous)
  • Proven experience in SQL code creation
  • Demonstrated process analysis experience
  • Solid systems understanding and test experience
