Trading Standards Officer

 Job Description:

We are working closely with Wirral MBC to assist with the appointment of a Trading Standards Officer, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £31.10 - £40.44 per hour

Summary:

Trading Standards Officer required to carry out complex and serious compliance enforcement activities across Trading Standards regulatory functions.

The successful candidate will undertake inspections, surveys and investigations, identify legal contraventions and determine appropriate enforcement action based on assessed risk. The role will involve working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and providing specialist advice to resolve complex Trading Standards issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Undertake and/or supervise complex Trading Standards projects involving a range of stakeholders.
  • Conduct inspections, surveys and investigations into serious and complex breaches of legislation.
  • Prepare reports, correspondence, interview records and case files, and brief Legal Services as required.
  • Use the full range of enforcement powers, from informal education and advice through to formal legal proceedings.
  • Prepare and present evidence and attend court when required.

Qualifications:

  • Professional CTSI Trading Standards qualification (DTS/DCATS including Food and Legal Metrology modules) or equivalent, plus a university degree.

Essentials:

  • Proven experience working within a Trading Standards service, including investigating consumer complaints and providing business advice.
  • Strong knowledge of current and proposed Trading Standards legislation, statutory guidance, enforcement procedures and PACE.
  • Experience investigating complex cases/projects and preparing reports, conducting interviews and compiling case files for Legal Services.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence behaviour and negotiate effectively.
