Youth Justice Officer

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Islington to assist with the appointment of a Youth Justice Officer, on a 3-month contract, likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £23.96 - £32.73 per hour

Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Youth Justice Officer to join the London Borough of Islingtons Youth Justice Service. The postholder will manage a diverse and complex caseload of children and young people who are subject to statutory orders, delivering interventions that reduce offending, protect the public, and support rehabilitation. The role requires working directly with young people, their families, courts, partner agencies, and custodial establishments.

The successful candidate will be a qualified Social Worker or Probation Officer with a minimum of two years statutory Youth Justice experience. They will be skilled in carrying out AssetPlus assessments, managing high-risk cases, representing the service in Youth and Crown Courts, and developing effective intervention and risk management plans.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise statutory court orders and encourage compliance through structured support and enforcement where necessary.
  • Prepare high-quality pre-sentence reports, referral order reports, and other statutory reports to national standards.
  • Represent the Youth Justice Service in Youth Court, Crown Court, and other court sittings, including weekends and bank holidays.
  • Work collaboratively with Childrens Services and external partners to support young people remanded to Local Authority accommodation and reduce the risk of reoffending.
  • Provide services to young people in custody, supporting sentence planning, addressing offending behaviour, and facilitating successful resettlement into the community.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified Social Worker (DipSW, CQSW, Degree in Social Work) or Probation Officer qualification.
  • Registration with Social Work England (if Social Worker).

Requirements:

  • Minimum of two years statutory experience working in Youth Justice.
  • Experience in undertaking AssetPlus assessments and delivering evidence-based interventions.
  • Proven ability to manage a complex caseload of young people subject to statutory orders.
  • Skilled in court work, including report writing, court attendance, and giving evidence.
  • Demonstrated experience of working with high-risk young people, including those at risk of harm, reoffending, or custody.
  • Experience in partnership and multi-agency working, including police, education, health, and voluntary sector agencies.
