Port Environmental Health Officer
Job Description:
We are working closely alongside a local authority in Liverpool to assist with the appointment of a Port Environmental Health Officer on a 6.5-months contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: £48.47- £64.00 per hour
Summary:
As a Port Environmental Health Officer, you will play a critical role in safeguarding public health at one of the UK's primary gateways. You will be part of a specialist team responsible for discharging statutory functions and enforcing legislation related to imported food controls, vessel inspections, and infectious disease control. Your work ensures that goods entering the country meet stringent safety standards and that the port environment remains compliant with national and international health regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Undertake official controls and inspections of consignments arriving at the Border Control Post (BCP), ensuring all documentation is accurate and products are compliant.
- Investigate complaints and public health enquiries, assessing risks and instigating formal enforcement action when necessary.
- Maintain high standards of data integrity and financial accountability in line with Council regulations.
- Promote the image of the Port Health Service through presentations and high-quality written material.
Qualifications:
- Degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Health.
Essentials:
- Experience in taking decisive action and working independently on complex investigations.
- Certificate of Registration with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board (EHORB) or an equivalent professional body.

- This role requires a Basic DBS
