Temporary Accommodation Officer

 Job Description:

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Greenwich to assist with the appointment of a Temporary Accommodation Placement Officer, on a 3-month contract, likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £18.30 - £23.05 per hour

Summary:

The Temporary Accommodation Visiting Officer will work within the Temporary Accommodation Team to ensure that properties provided to homeless households are being lawfully and appropriately occupied. The officer will conduct regular occupancy checks and property visits, identifying issues such as non-occupation, subletting, disrepair, or safeguarding concerns. Findings will be reported back promptly for appropriate action. The role also involves liaising with tenants, landlords, and partner agencies to support tenancy compliance and address issues that may affect the stability and safety of placements.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct occupancy checks and routine visits to temporary accommodation properties within and outside the borough.
  • Ensure clients are occupying the accommodation and adhering to tenancy/licence conditions.
  • Identify and report cases of non-occupation, subletting, abandonment, or other breaches of tenancy.
  • Report repairs, disrepair, or property-related concerns to Property Services or landlords.
  • Record and escalate safeguarding concerns relating to children or vulnerable adults.

Essentials:

  • Experience in housing, property management, tenancy enforcement, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of housing legislation, tenancy/licence agreements, and temporary accommodation management.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with vulnerable households.
  • Ability to identify safeguarding concerns and follow reporting procedures.
  • Experience of carrying out inspections or property visits and producing clear reports.
  • Competent IT skills and ability to maintain accurate case records.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and handle sensitive situations with discretion.
