Family Support Worker
Job Description:
We are working closely alongside with a local authority in St.Helens to assist with the appointment of a Family Support Worker on a 4-months contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: £14.32 - £18.72 per hour
Summary:
The Family Support Worker provides essential assistance to qualified Social Workers in helping, protecting, and supporting families subject to statutory procedures. The role is focused on delivering intensive, practical, and domestic-based support to reduce risk and build family resilience. You will work proactively with difficult-to-engage families to ensure a healthy environment for children, facilitate "Family Time" (supervised contact), and contribute to the assessment and care planning process to ensure the voice of the child is always represented.
Responsibilities:
- Provide "hands-on" domestic support and intervention programmes to parents and carers to improve the home environment.
- Use evidence-based tools such as Signs of Safety and the Graded Care Profile to monitor and record a family's progress.
- Assist Social Workers in the assessment of children and young people and help develop care packages tailored to their needs.
- Ensure that the child's perspective is central to all assessments and care plan records.
- Respond appropriately and positively to challenging behaviors or high-conflict situations in line with departmental procedures.
Essentials:
- Proven experience working with children, young people, and families, particularly those with complex needs or those subject to statutory interventions.
- Experience in managing potentially challenging situations and working assertively with families.
- Experience in recording observations and preparing formal reports for meetings or legal proceedings.
- A deep understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures (St Helens Safeguarding Children Partnership).
