Area Planning Service Manager
Job Description:
We are working closely alongside with local authority in London Borough of Hillingdon to assist with the appointment of a Area Planning Service Manager on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: £48.47- £64.00 per hour
Summary:
The Area Planning Service Manager (North Team) is a senior leadership role responsible for the efficient and effective day-to-day delivery of development management functions and planning enforcement within the North area of the Borough. The post-holder will manage and lead professional teams, providing a clear vision and strategy for service delivery, including the processing of planning applications, with a consistent focus on continuous improvement. This role is critical in ensuring agreed service plans and performance targets are met, while maintaining a culture of putting residents first.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure all team members receive the appropriate level of coaching, support, and professional development to maximize their potential and deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Ensure agreed service plans and performance targets are delivered, particularly those related to the processing of planning applications and handling of planning enforcement matters.
- Authorise complex and sensitive planning applications, and make recommendations on major schemes, ensuring decisions are robust and legally sound.
- Manage and maintain effective relationships with key external stakeholders, including applicants, developers, residents, Councillors, and statutory agencies, to facilitate development and resolve complex issues.
- Support the effective management of the entire Development Management function, including deputising for the Head of Development Management as required.
Essentials:
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Town Planning or a related discipline.
- Significant, demonstrable experience in a senior managerial role within a Development Management or Planning function, preferably within a local authority.
- Proven experience in managing, motivating, and developing professional teams to achieve demanding performance targets.
- Experience of presenting reports and providing expert advice to elected Members (Councillors) and attending Planning Committee meetings.
- Must have a valid UK Driving Licence
