Planning Policy Team Leader
Job Description:
We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Reigate and Banstead to assist with the appointment of a Planning Policy Team Leader, on a 7-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: £23.52 - £30.83 per hour
Summary:
The Planning Policy Team Leader is responsible for leading the Planning Policy Team and managing the delivery and monitoring of the Council's Local Plan and related strategic planning activities. The role ensures that all planning policy work aligns with statutory requirements, national guidance, and the Council's corporate priorities. The postholder will play a strategic role in shaping development across the borough, leading public engagement, coordinating with regional planning authorities, and supporting internal stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the Planning Policy Team and oversee the Local Development Scheme and Local Plan documents.
- Commission and manage specialist studies and surveys as needed to support policy development.
- Represent the Council by providing expert evidence at Local Plan examinations and public inquiries.
- Coordinate strategic planning efforts with neighboring authorities, ensuring compliance with the duty to cooperate.
- Brief senior management and elected members, preparing and presenting planning reports as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Town Planning or a related field.
Experience:
- Experience presenting evidence at planning inquiries or examinations.
- Experience managing consultants and external studies.
Essentials:
- Membership of RTPI or eligible for membership
- Comprehensive knowledge of planning policy and legislation.
- Significant experience in preparing local development plans.
