Rate of Pay: £20.45 - £26.95 per hour

Summary:

The Prison Librarian is responsible for delivering a comprehensive, inclusive, and high-quality library service within HMP Brixton.  The role supports prisoner rehabilitation through access to recreational, educational, and legal resources in alignment with national prison standards and CILIP guidelines.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee daily library operations, ensuring high standards of service delivery.
• Deliver library services that meet prisoners recreational, educational, cultural, and information needs.
• Recruit, train, and supervise Prisoner Assistants and other assigned staff.
• Maintain efficient operational systems (e.g., stock, cataloguing, circulation).
• Support legal information needs through tailored reference and enquiry services.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent.
• A professional librarian qualification is desirable.

Essentials:

• Experience working in libraries or similar public-facing environments.
• Proven ability to engage and communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups.
• Competency in ICT, literacy, and numeracy.
• Awareness of current trends in prison libraries and related professional practices.
