Principal Planner
Job Description:
We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Havering to assist with the appointment of a Principal Planner, on a 5.5-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: £30.28 - £40.14 per Hour
Summary:
The London Borough of Havering is seeking a motivated and experienced Deputy Team Leader to support the Strategic Applications Team. This is a key role in delivering high-quality, innovative planning and regeneration across the borough. You will help manage strategic planning applications and lead on complex development proposals aligned with the Havering Local Plan.
Responsibilities:
- Support and deputise for the Strategic Applications Team Leader across all aspects of team and service management.
- Manage and contribute to the assessment of 100+ strategic planning applications per year, ensuring timely and high-quality decision-making.
- Provide supervisory support to planning officers and contribute to the delivery of service plans and improvements.
- Lead negotiations on planning obligations and pre-application advice.
- Present complex and strategic applications to planning committees and represent the council in public meetings and appeals.
Qualifications:
- RTPI-accredited postgraduate degree.
- Eligible for membership of the RTPI or RICS (Planning and Development).
- Evidence of relevant Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Experience Required:
- Proven supervisory or team management experience in development management or urban design.
- Experience handling strategic and complex planning applications, including those with political sensitivity.
- Experience in appeals, public inquiries, and member-level meetings.
- Familiarity with local government planning frameworks, including the London Plan and relevant legislation.
