Senior Appeals Officer

 Job Description:

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Nottinghamshire to assist with the appointment of a Senior Appeals Officer, on a 2.5-month contract, likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £21.14 - £28.90 per hour

Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Senior Appeals Officer to manage a caseload of SEND Tribunal and Mediation cases. The role involves preparing the Local Authoritys Statement of Case, gathering evidence in collaboration with multi-agency professionals, and representing Nottinghamshire County Council at the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal (SENDIST). You will play a key role in ensuring cases are well-prepared, legally compliant, and resolved in the best interests of the child or young person, while ensuring efficient use of public resources.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage all aspects of SENDIST Tribunal and mediation cases on behalf of the Local Authority.
  • Prepare detailed Statements of Case, gather and review supporting documentation, and coordinate with education, health, and social care partners.
  • Represent the Local Authority at Tribunal hearings and mediation sessions with professionalism and thorough legal understanding.
  • Ensure all statutory timelines and procedural requirements are met.
  • Provide support and guidance to other case officers and senior practitioners, including training on appeals and tribunal casework.

Qualifications:

  • Educated to Level 6 (Degree level) or above in a relevant field (e.g., education, social care, law).

Experience:
  • Minimum of 4 years experience in SEND casework or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience of preparing and presenting cases at SEND tribunals and mediations.
  • Proven track record in managing complex cases and supporting colleagues through guidance and training.
  • Multi-agency working experience, with the ability to influence and coordinate across services.
  • Experience with safeguarding frameworks and working directly with families facing complex challenges.
