Ground Maintenance Operative
Job Description:
We are working closely with Southern Housing to assist with the appointment of a Ground Maintenance Operative, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: £14.10 - £18.25 per hour
Summary:
The Ground Maintenance Operative will undertake a variety of cleaning, minor repair, and estate maintenance duties, ensuring properties are safe, clean, and well-presented. This is a physically active role requiring excellent customer service skills, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to maintaining high standards.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure communal areas are clean, safe, and well maintained through sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, polishing, and litter picking.
- Clean, disinfect, and maintain refuse chutes, bin stores, and refuse collection areas.
- Operate cleaning equipment and machinery, including jet washers and steam cleaners, to carry out deep cleaning (training provided).
- Carry out minor internal and external property repairs, including basic joinery, non-qualified plumbing tasks (e.g., unblocking sinks and toilets), painting, graffiti removal, and lock changes.
- Report defects and repairs that cannot be resolved to the maintenance team or line manager and monitor follow-up actions.
- Conduct inspections, tests, and submit detailed reports as required.
Essentials:
- Relevant experience in estate services, property maintenance, facilities management, or a similar environment.
- Good practical skills with the ability to undertake a wide range of minor building repairs and maintenance tasks.

Experience working within a small team while also being able to work independently.

Basic knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and safe working practices.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with residents, contractors, and colleagues.
