Environmental Health Officer

 Job Description:

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in City of Westminster to assist with the appointment of an Environmental Health Officer, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £37.21 - £49.15 per hour

Summary:

The Environmental Health Officer will undertake food hygiene inspections, investigate complaints and accidents, enforce relevant legislation, and work collaboratively with businesses and stakeholders to promote compliance. This is a hybrid role involving site inspections, office-based work, and some remote working.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct food hygiene inspections (Categories A–D) and inspections of new food premises.
  • Investigate food hygiene and health & safety complaints.
  • Carry out accident investigations, including those reportable under RIDDOR.
  • Assess compliance with food safety and health & safety legislation and determine appropriate enforcement action.
  • Issue enforcement notices where required, including Hygiene Improvement Notices (HIN), Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notices (HEPN), Improvement Notices, and Prohibition Notices.
  • Prepare evidence and participate in legal proceedings, including court attendance where necessary.

Qualification:

  • Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health (or equivalent recognised qualification).
  • Must meet the Food Standards Agency (FSA) Food Law Code of Practice competency framework.
  • Registered with EHORB or CIEH (or eligible and compliant).

Essentials:

  • Experience or sound understanding of food hygiene inspections.
  • Experience or knowledge of Health & Safety enforcement.
  • Experience conducting or assisting with RIDDOR accident investigations.
  • Ability to interpret and apply environmental health legislation and enforcement procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare accurate reports and evidence.
