We are working closely alongside with local authority in Hillingdon to assist with the appointment of a Major Project Officer on a 5-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £44.66- £59.00 per hour

Summary:

The Major Projects Officer is the lead officer for the largest and most complex planning applications and pre-application submissions received by the Local Planning Authority (LPA).This is a high-level, customer-focused role, responsible for efficiently and effectively managing all aspects of a full range of major planning applications, particularly those subject to Planning Performance Agreements (PPA). The officer makes a full contribution to achieving relevant performance targets and may have supervisory responsibilities for junior team members

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the lead officer for the largest and most complex planning applications, pre-application submissions, screening, and scoping opinion requests.
  • Manage a caseload of complex planning submissions, assisting the team leaders and service managers in case management.
  • Effectively use planning-related software programmes and GIS systems to undertake and record work.
  • Prepare and present written and verbal reports to senior officers, Committee, and external inquiries.
  • Negotiate and draft complex Section 106 (S106) agreements and conditions to secure necessary infrastructure and planning obligations.
  • Act as a role model to other staff, assisting with inductions and training of peers and new employees in complex application procedures.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the role of elected members and Corporate Management Team (CMT) in the planning process.

Essentials:

  • A degree or post-graduate qualification in Town Planning (or a closely related discipline).
  • Significant, demonstrable experience in Development Management (DM), specifically dealing with major and complex planning applications and pre-application advice.
  • Eligibility for membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
  • Proven ability to draft S106 agreements, conditions, and complex reports. Competent use of planning-related software programmes and GIS systems.
