Rent Service Officer
Job Description:
We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Camden to assist with the appointment of a Rent Service Officer, on a 2.5-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: £21.58 - £28.58 per hour
Summary:
As a Rent Service Officer, you will play a vital role in Camden Councils Rent Service Team, managing a designated patch of residential and non-residential rent accounts. Your primary responsibility will be to maximise rent collection and minimise arrears by applying Camdens rent recovery policies, adhering strictly to pre-court action protocols, and providing tailored support to tenants. This role requires a balance of operational efficiency, customer service, and legal awareness, ensuring residents are supported to sustain their tenancies while the Council meets its rent collection targets.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a caseload of rent accounts across a defined patch, ensuring rent is collected in line with agreed targets and KPIs.
- Take proactive action on arrears cases, from early intervention to enforcement, including preparing legal papers and adhering to pre-court protocols.
- Provide tailored support to residents, including advice on welfare benefits, payment plans, and referrals to external support agencies.
- Deal effectively with vulnerable and difficult customers, both face-to-face and over the phone, maintaining professionalism at all times.
- Identify and share good practice in arrears recovery to improve team performance.
Requirements:
- Good understanding of tenancy management, including successions, abandonments, and use and occupation rights.
- Strong knowledge of housing law, pre-court protocols, and rent arrears recovery methods.
- Proficiency in housing management systems, ideally Northgate, alongside MS Office packages.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills, able to negotiate affordable repayment agreements.
- Ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with challenging situations.
- Proven experience managing rent arrears cases within social housing, estate management, or a similar environment.
- Experience of dealing sensitively and effectively with diverse communities within a customer-focused organisation.
- Demonstrated success in achieving performance targets under pressure.
- Experience of collaborative working with internal teams and external support agencies to sustain tenancies.
