About the job Instruments Man
Position Summary:
As an Instrument Person or Rodman, youll work alongside our Crew Chiefs to support field data collection and survey execution. This is a hands-on position ideal for someone who is dependable, takes pride in their work, and is looking to build a long-term career in land surveying.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with loading and verifying daily field equipment and supplies
- Set up survey instruments and gather accurate data under Crew Chief direction
- Support tasks such as line cutting, corner recovery, and point staking
- Use Carlson SurvCE or similar to run map checks and coordinate transformations
- Perform field calculations (inverse, resection, traverse) and run trig leveling
- Read and interpret plats, legal descriptions, and construction plans
- Maintain clear and organized field notes for office use
- Ensure equipment is properly calibrated (including prism rods)
- Work safely and efficiently in varied outdoor conditions and terrain
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1+ years of land surveying or construction layout experience preferred
- Valid drivers license and clean driving record
- Familiarity with total stations, GPS, and data collectors (Trimble/Carlson preferred)
- Strong communication and reliability
- Willingness to work outdoors in a variety of weather and site conditions
- Comfortable working near construction equipment and active job sites
