Job brief

A client of ours is seeking a highly skilled Accountant with a minimum of 5 to 10 years experience, preferably within the insurance or financial services industry. The successful candidate must have strong expertise in Sage Intacct and a deep understanding of insurance accounting principles. This role will ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance with insurance industry regulations, and the provision of insightful financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting

    • Prepare and analyze financial statements in compliance with regulatory and accounting standards.

    • Identify and highlight key financial trends impacting business performance.

  • Management Reporting

    • Prepare and present weekly and monthly management reports, including sales, departmental activity, and company performance.

    • Provide insights to support executive decision-making.

  • Regulatory Reporting

    • Prepare and submit insurance industry-specific regulatory returns in a timely manner.

    • Ensure full compliance with financial and statutory reporting obligations.

  • Account Reconciliation

    • Reconcile insurance accounts including premiums receivable, claims payable, and reinsurance recoverable.

    • Ensure accuracy and integrity of all reconciliations.

  • Claims Management

    • Assist with claims processing, payments, and refunds in line with policy terms.

    • Prepare and track claims reporting for management review.

  • Regulatory Compliance & Audit

    • Ensure compliance with all statutory and insurance industry regulations.

    • Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation and explanations.

  • Internal Controls

    • Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accuracy of financial information.

  • Commissions Reporting

    • Prepare, analyze, and track commission payments to intermediaries.

  • General Accounting

    • Manage general ledger functions, accounts payable/receivable, and bank reconciliations.

  • Budgeting & Forecasting

    • Support annual budgeting and ongoing financial planning processes.

  • Collaboration & Support

    • Work closely with cross-functional teams, external auditors, and regulators.

    • Take on additional finance-related duties as may be assigned.


  • Requirements
    • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (essential).

    • ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent qualification (or finalist).

    • Minimum of 5 to 10 years accounting experience, with at least 2 years in the insurance or financial services sector.

    • Strong hands-on experience with Sage Intacct (essential).

    • Proficiency in other accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, Pastel, Sage Payroll) is an advantage.

    • Solid understanding of insurance accounting principles, regulatory requirements, and compliance standards.

    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and financial modeling skills.

    • Excellent English communication and presentation skills, with ability to explain financial concepts clearly.

    • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.

    • Strong organizational skills and a proactive, detail-oriented approach.
