Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Linux Patching Engineer with approximately 5 years of experience in managing, automating, and securing Linux patching processes across enterprise environments. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in system administration, patch management, automation tools, and security compliance.

  1. Key Responsibilities
  • Patch Management
  • Plan, schedule, and apply patches across Linux servers (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, SUSE).
  • Ensure timely application of security patches and critical updates.
  • Maintain rollback strategies and recovery plans.

2. Automation & Tools

  • Develop and maintain automation scripts using Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
  • Implement patch compliance reporting using Red Hat Satellite, WSUS integration, or custom dashboards.
  • Kernel & Live Patching
  • Apply kernel updates using live patching tools (kpatch, ksplice) to minimize downtime.
  • Validate kernel upgrades and ensure system stability.
  • Security & Compliance
  • Monitor vendor advisories and CVEs to prioritize patching.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and ensure compliance with industry standards (ISO, PCI-DSS, HIPAA).
  • Document patching activities for audits.

3. Troubleshooting

  • Diagnose and resolve issues arising from patch deployments.
  • Collaborate with application teams to validate post-patch functionality.
  • Provide root cause analysis for patch-related incidents.

4. Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of Linux system administration experience.
  • Strong knowledge of RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, SUSE patching workflows.
  • Hands-on experience with automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
  • Familiarity with live kernel patching (kpatch, ksplice).
  • Experience with rollback strategies (yum history, apt downgrade, snapshots).
  • Knowledge of security compliance frameworks and vulnerability management.
  • Scripting skills in Bash, Python, or Shell scripting.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.

5. Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Familiarity with container patching (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines for automated patching.
  • Certifications: RHCSA, RHCE, CompTIA Linux+, or LPIC.
