About The Role:

The Principal Engineer serves as the senior technical authority for narrowband satellite communication systems within the SATCOM
Systems Program Office (SPO), with a specific focus on integration and sustainment within the Land Domain

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead technical assurance for narrowband SATCOM systems supporting land-based platforms and operations
  • Align narrowband SATCOM technical assurance with CA-66 Land Systems project requirements
  • Assign and manage Technical Authority across narrowband SATCOM sustainment and acquisition activities
  • Exercise delegated authority to approve designs and certify materiel for narrowband SATCOM systems
  • Maintain engineering standards, processes, and procedures aligned with both SATCOM SPO and Land Division.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for narrowband SATCOM systems in land environments.
  • Provide expert technical advice to SATCOM SPO leadership and Defence stakeholders
  • Drive innovation in narrowband SATCOM capabilities for land-based applications

About You:

Essential:

  • Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Communications, Systems, or related).
  • CPEng or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • Experience in Defence engineering, ideally in SATCOM or communications systems.
  • Proven technical authority and assurance experience in complex environments.
  • Strong understanding of Land Domain integration and engineering governance.
  • Demonstrated risk management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • NV2 security clearance.

Desirable: 

  • Postgraduate qualifications in Systems Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in CASG acquisition or sustainment projects.
  • Familiarity with joint/coalition SATCOM interoperability standards.
  • Knowledge of Land Materiel Design Acceptance and relevant Defence instructions.
  • Demonstrated leadership in innovation and mentoring engineering teams.
