Cakum Global is looking for an Asphalt Distribution Driver for an Airfield Asphalt Construction operation with our client on a remote U.S. island in the Pacific. The role is a full-time independent contractor (1099) role for a period of 4 to 5 years.

Job Summary The Asphalt Distribution Driver is responsible for safely operating an asphalt distributor truck (tack/prime truck) to apply asphalt emulsions, tack/prime coats, or liquid asphalt to road surfaces, ensuring proper preparation for paving, chip sealing, or resurfacing operations. This role supports road construction and maintenance projects by delivering precise, uniform application while adhering to safety regulations, company policies, and DOT/FMCSA standards. The position requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions and collaborating with paving crews.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Drive and operate asphalt distributor trucks equipped with tanks, spray bars, burners, and pressure systems to spray asphalt emulsions or tack coats on roadways and construction surfaces.
  • Load and unload asphalt materials (e.g., fill tanks from storage tanks or transports, connect hoses, regulate temperature and pressure).
  • Adjust spray rates, bar heights, and nozzle settings to achieve even distribution and coverage per project specifications.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the truck, including tires, lights, brakes, fluid levels, burner systems, spray equipment, and safety features; report any issues immediately.
  • Maintain accurate records of loads, applications, mileage, and daily logs in compliance with DOT regulations.
  • Ensure safe maneuvering on job sites, highways, and in traffic; follow traffic control plans and flagging procedures.
  • Assist with basic maintenance and cleaning of the distributor truck (e.g., flushing systems, checking filters, minor repairs).
  • Communicate effectively with foremen, paving crews, and team members to coordinate application timing and sequencing.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, including handling hazardous materials, wearing PPE, and preventing spills or environmental incidents.
  • Occasionally support other tasks, such as driving support vehicles or labor duties on the crew as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a United States Citizen or Green Card holder (NON-NEGOTIABLE).
  • Must possess a valid US Commercial Driver's License (CDL) – Class A or Class B required.
  • Clean driving record with no major violations; ability to pass DOT physical and maintain medical certification.
  • Experience operating commercial trucks, preferably in construction, asphalt, or related fields (1 plus years preferred; distributor/tack truck experience a strong plus).
  • Strong attention to detail for uniform application and quality control.
  • Physical ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing in/out of truck, and working in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain).
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Willingness to work seasonal/full-time hours.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tanker and/or Hazmat endorsements on CDL.
  • Prior experience with asphalt distributor equipment (e.g., Etnyre, Rosco, or similar brands).
  • OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety certification or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with emulsion types (e.g., CSS-1H, SS-1) and temperature/pressure controls.
