CONTROL ROOM OPERATOR

Control Room Operator – Gas Turbine (Dual Fuel SCGT)

Role Objective

To safely operate and monitor the Gas Turbine Generator (GTG) and all associated auxiliaries from the DCS/control room, ensuring reliable generation, grid compliance, and smooth fuel switching (Gas to HSD).

Key Responsibilities

A. Plant Operation

• Operate and monitor:
  • Gas Turbine (startup, loading, shutdown)
  • Generator synchronization & loading
  • Auxiliary systems (lube oil, cooling water, fuel systems)
• Execute:
  • Cold / Warm / Hot starts as per procedures
• Maintain stable operation within OEM limits

B. Dual Fuel Management (Critical)

• Manage:
  • Gas fuel system (pressure, temperature, flow)
  • HSD system (forwarding, heating, viscosity control)
• Execute fuel changeover (Gas HSD) without load disturbance
• Monitor combustion parameters:
  • Flame stability
  • Exhaust temperature spread
• Prevent:
  • Flameout / trips during fuel switching

C. DCS Monitoring & Control

• Continuous monitoring of:
  • Alarms & trips
  • Process parameters (Temperature, Pressure, Flow, Vibration)
• Respond to:
  • Abnormal conditions
  • System alarms and interlocks
• Maintain alarm discipline

D. Grid & Electrical Operations

• Synchronize generator with grid
• Maintain:
  • Voltage
  • Frequency
  • Load as per grid code
• Coordinate with:
  • SLDC / Load Dispatch Centre

E. Emergency Handling

• Handle:
  • GT trips & emergency shutdowns
  • Black start / emergency restoration (if applicable)
• Execute trip analysis (first-level)

F. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain:
  • Log sheets (hourly parameters)
  • Shift reports
• Record:
  • Trips
  • Abnormalities
  • Fuel consumption

Key Systems Handled

• Gas Turbine control system (OEM specific)
• DCS / SCADA
• Fuel systems (Gas + HSD)
• Generator & synchronization panels
• Fire & gas systems

Qualifications

• B.E. in Mechanical / Electrical / Instrumentation

Experience

• 8 to 10 years in gas turbine operation
• Experience in dual-fuel operation preferred (mandatory for senior CRO)
