Plant Operations Shift Supervisor (GEMS)

Job Description:

• Supervises the work of control room operators, power plant employees and others assigned to a shift in the operation of turbines, generators, reciprocating engines, HRSGs, motors and other plant equipment.
• Supervises non-shift employees after hours and on weekends.
• Directs and oversees the starting, stopping, and operations of power generating equipment and auxiliaries.
• Supervises the operation of the Zero Discharge facility and/or SCR.
• Ensures the generating units are operates within all applicable operating parameters, environmental, reliability, regulatory requirements and within prudent utility practices. Coordinate unit operations with the Electric Control Center.
• Ensures all employees are taking readings each hour and doing their assigned jobs.
• Makes periodic inspections of equipment to see that it is functioning properly to include all environmentally sensitive equipment, demineralized water systems and water quality equipment.
• Ensures that appropriate clearances are prepared and issued on all equipment that is out for repair.
• Ensures that necessary Safe Work, Confined Space, Hot Work and Excavation permits are properly prepared and issued.
• Recommends the selection, transfer, promotion, grievance adjustment, discipline and discharge of assigned staff.
• Conducts performance evaluations and recommends approval or disapproval of merit increases.
• Assists shift personnel in training.
• Prepares necessary paperwork.
• Monitors the status of all safety systems such as fire protection and the compliance with safety rules.
• Performs other duties as required.
