About the job Telecommunications Technician
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certifications in telecommunications or networking preferred. Specialized training in fiber optics, Ethernet systems, circuit installations, or related fields is a plus.
Minimum/General Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in telecommunications installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Proven expertise in handling Ethernet networks, fiber optic systems, and VLAN configurations. Familiarity with telecommunications industry standards and practices, including knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) and ANSI/TIA standards.
Duties:
- Installation and Configuration: Install, configure, and maintain telecommunications equipment, including Ethernet gateways, fiber optic systems, and network infrastructure. Conduct site surveys to determine installation requirements and prepare for network upgrades or new service implementations.
- Testing and Troubleshooting: Perform diagnostic tests to identify issues and ensure compliance with performance standards. Use specialized tools and software for troubleshooting network connectivity, circuit performance, and VLAN configurations.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of installations, maintenance, and repairs. Provide detailed service reports and updates to the project management team.
- Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, project managers, and other team members to ensure seamless project execution. Communicate effectively with government and military personnel to coordinate installation and repair activities.
- Compliance and Safety: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulatory requirements during installations and maintenance. Ensure that all telecommunications systems comply with government security and operational standards.
Certifications or Training: Certifications such as Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT), CompTIA Network+, or equivalent are preferred. Vendor-specific certifications (e.g., Nokia, Cisco, Fujitsu, Juniper, etc.) are advantageous.
Clearance: Secret clearance required.
Travel: Ability and willingness to travel across various sites in Hawaii as required by project needs. Must have a valid drivers license and meet travel requirements, including overnight stays.
