Central Office (CO) Technician
Job Summary
The Central Office Technician is responsible for performing inside plant (ISP) work in central offices, remote sites, and customer locations. This role supports network transformation initiatives including copper decommissioning, fiber migration, and equipment consolidation.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and execute jumper assignments (copper and fiber) at MDFs, DSX panels, and cabinets
- Perform circuit cross-connects (DSX1, DSX3, fiber) and SONET/WDM configurations
- Trace and verify circuits where records are incomplete or inaccurate
- Remove and install jumpers, power connections, and telecom equipment
- Decommission legacy equipment (fuse removal, power-down, card/shelf removal)
- Install and configure network elements for remote connectivity (OAM&P)
- Conduct site surveys for space, power, and infrastructure readiness
- Support equipment consolidation and copper-to-fiber migration efforts
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with central office environments and telecom infrastructure
- Knowledge of copper/fiber cross-connect systems and circuit layouts
- Ability to read circuit layout records (CLRs)
- Familiarity with SONET, WDM, DSL, and legacy POTS systems
- Proficiency with telecom test equipment
- Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills
Work Environment
- Central offices, remote cabinets, and customer premises
- Field-based across multiple islands (Hawaii region)
- Requires own vehicle, tools, and test equipment
