About the job MLRO
Our client is a fast-growing Electronic Money Institution (EMI) headquartered in Vilnius, has German roots, and has been serving international clients with payments and financial services since 2020. They operate in a higher-risk (no crypto), high-impact environment having compliance as a cornerstone of their operations.
We are looking for an experienced, hands-on MLRO who can bring confidence, structure, and independent judgment, who uses experience and regulatory understanding to guide the business.
Mandate:
The MLRO is a key control function holder, accountable for the effectiveness of the company's AML/CTF and Sanctions framework and reporting directly to the Board. The MLRO acts independently, with authority to escalate concerns, recommend corrective actions, and ensure compliance with Lithuanian and EU regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and continuously enhance a robust AML/CTF and Sanctions compliance framework in line with BoL and EU expectations
- Ensure effective operation of the first line (KYC and TM) through governance, controls, and escalation
- Support selected AML/CTF operational activities during periods of growth or change, while maintaining independence and appropriate controls
- Monitor regulatory developments and ensure timely updates to policies, procedures, and training
- Conduct AML/CTF and Sanctions risk assessments and prepare Enterprise-Wide Risk Assessment (EWRA)
- Review, investigate and decide on STR/SAR filings and ensure timely reporting to FCIU
- Act as the primary point of contact with regulators (BoL, FCIU) on AML/CTF and sanctions matters
- Deliver regular and ad-hoc reporting to the Board and senior management
- Develop and monitor control systems to prevent or deal with violations of regulatory requirements and internal policies
- Support and manage AML/CTF related internal and external audits and regulatory inspections
About You
- Strong practical knowledge of Lithuanian and EU financial regulations with experience interacting with BoL and FCIU
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in AML or compliance, ideally within an EMI, payments, or fintech environment
- Experience handling high-risk clients or complex onboarding cases
- Proven ability to make confident, independent decisions and communicate them effectively across the organisation
- Based in Vilnius, fluent in Lithuanian and English
