Bridge Department Manager
Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Bridge Department Manager to lead business development, financial performance, and team management for a local civil engineering department. This role is ideal for a senior engineering leader with strong experience in bridge and horizontal structural engineering, along with a proven track record in project management, business development, and staff leadership. The ideal candidate will bring both technical depth and leadership strength to help grow market presence, support project delivery, and build a high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate strategic growth plans with office managers and practice leaders
Establish and grow market presence through marketing and business development efforts
Manage the department financial budget and allocate resources accordingly
Lead and contribute to proposal development and client presentations
Serve as a technical resource to project managers and engineering staff
Identify staffing needs and support resource planning for the department
Interview, hire, and develop team members
Conduct performance reviews based on team and project feedback
Lead continuous performance management through coaching, goal setting, 1:1 meetings, and feedback
Support team growth, leadership development, and department success
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an accredited program
Professional Engineer (PE) License required
Minimum 10 years of bridge / horizontal structural engineering experience
Strong experience in project management and business development
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Demonstrated leadership experience in team management, hiring, and performance development
Strong communication and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with local county and state-level clients
Supervisory or department leadership experience
Background in growing client relationships and expanding regional market presence
