City Build Recruitment is partnering with a respected architecture practice seeking a Senior Architect to lead complex institutional projects and play a key role in the continued growth of the firm.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced architect who enjoys managing projects end-to-end, leading teams, and delivering thoughtful, well-executed buildings. The firm is open to individuals who are either established senior project leaders or those stepping into a more senior role with the capability to manage significant project responsibilities.

Over time, this role may also evolve into a leadership or succession-track opportunity for the right individual who demonstrates long-term commitment to the practice.

Role Overview

The Senior Architect will lead architectural projects from early design through construction, managing teams, coordinating consultants, and ensuring successful delivery. Projects will primarily focus on institutional sectors and may include higher education, healthcare, long-term care, recreation facilities, and other public-sector buildings.

This role requires a confident communicator who can lead teams, manage project complexity, and represent the firm professionally with clients and consultants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Leadership
  • Lead projects from design through construction administration
  • Manage project teams and coordinate consultants across disciplines
  • Oversee drawing production, project documentation, and technical delivery
  • Ensure projects remain on schedule, within budget, and aligned with client expectations

Design and Technical Coordination
Translate design intent into clear and buildable documentation
Review drawings, coordinate technical solutions, and support quality control
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members

Client and Team Leadership

  • Participate in client meetings and consultant coordination
  • Lead internal teams and provide clear project direction
  • Contribute to a collaborative and accountable studio environment

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience in architecture (education does not count toward this requirement)
  • Experience leading projects valued at $30M+ is considered an asset

Strong experience in institutional sectors, including:

  • Higher Education

  • Healthcare

  • Long-Term Care

  • Recreation / Fitness Facilities

  • Proven ability to lead project teams and coordinate complex projects
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working with clients and consultants
  • Highly organized with strong problem-solving and project management capabilities
  • Licensure with the OAA is considered an asset but is not mandatory for the right candidate.
