Technical Manager & Trainer Preservation Sector (Damp & Timber)

Location: Huntingdon or Home-Based with UK Travel
Salary: £40,000 to £52,000 plus generous car and mileage allowance
Employment Type: Full Time, Permanent

Are you a proactive, organised Technical Manager with strong expertise in the damp and timber preservation sector? Do you enjoy delivering training, supporting industry standards, and working with a wide range of stakeholders?

We are recruiting for a Technical Manager & Trainer to join a supportive, friendly team in a role that offers variety, autonomy and national exposure.

The Opportunity

This is an exciting position for a confident trainer and technically skilled professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. You'll play a key role in supporting the preservation sector delivering training, carrying out audits, and ensuring high technical standards across the industry.

What You'll Be Doing

Training Delivery (approx. 50%)

  • Deliver classroom and practical training courses in preservation (damp & timber)

  • Keep training content and materials updated and aligned with industry best practice

  • Ensure course equipment is maintained and fit for purpose

  • Support continuous improvement of training and certification programmes

Technical Support & Sector Leadership (approx. 20%)

  • Contribute to the development of technical standards and best practice

  • Draft responses to industry consultations and work closely with sector members

  • Provide technical guidance and support to stakeholders, including handling consumer-to-member queries

  • Lead sector meetings, set agendas, record minutes and drive follow-up actions

  • Represent the organisation at events, meetings, and conferences

Audits (approx. 20%)

  • Conduct technical audits for industry members across the UK

  • Produce clear audit reports and recommend any required actions

Additional Responsibilities (approx. 10%)

  • Support the delivery of new projects and initiatives

  • Write articles, blogs and press releases relating to your technical expertise

  • Maintain your own professional development

  • Attend internal meetings and contribute to wider organisational activities

What Were Looking For

Essential

  • Technical background within the preservation sector (damp, timber, wood preservation)

  • Experience delivering training

  • Strong project management skills and ability to handle competing priorities

  • Excellent communication, influencing and relationship-building skills

  • Ability to interpret, analyse and present information clearly

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office

  • Comfortable working independently and within a team

  • Willingness to travel regularly across the UK (approx. 3 days per week)

Desirable

  • CSTDB, CSRT or equivalent qualification

  • Membership of a relevant professional body

  • Experience within a not-for-profit or membership-based environment
