About the job Technical Lead
Technical Lead Power Systems & Grid Stability
Remote USA
Are you ready to play a pivotal role in tackling some of the most complex challenges in modern power systems, from low inertia and weak grids to oscillations and wide-area stability and directly support the global transition to Net Zero?
If you are a technically accomplished, commercially astute professional with deep expertise in power system dynamics and stability analysis, this opportunity could be the next step in your career.
The Company
Our client is a global energy technology innovator, enabling grid operators and utilities to accelerate renewable integration and unlock the pathway to a low-carbon future. Their solutions are trusted worldwide to address the operational challenges of modern grids, from real-time analytics to dynamic stability and control.
The Role: Technical Lead Power Systems & Grid Stability
As our client expands across North America, we are seeking a Technical Lead to join their growing team of power systems specialists. This role combines in-depth technical expertise with customer-facing engagement, working closely with utilities, ISOs/TSOs, and developers to address complex challenges in renewable energy integration and stability.
You will collaborate with product, engineering and sales teams to translate technical challenges into solutions, helping to close deals and shape the future of the grid. Success in this role requires the ability to engage customers on technical pain points such as oscillations, reduced system strength, and low inertia and position advanced solutions like WAMS/PMU-based analytics, dynamic simulation, and grid stability tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Engagement & Solution Advocacy: Engage with customers to identify stability-related challenges and advise on technical solutions for low inertia, oscillations, and weak grid conditions.
- Technical Presentations & Demonstrations: Deliver clear, impactful presentations on advanced power system analytics and stability solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Dynamic Modelling & Analysis: Apply your expertise in EMT/RMS simulations (PSCAD, PSS®E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, RTDS) to validate solutions and provide technical assurance.
- PMU/WAMS Analytics: Demonstrate how wide-area monitoring systems and synchrophasor data can be leveraged for oscillation detection, situational awareness, and control.
- Commercial Support: Work with sales and product teams to build business cases, support bids, and develop technical content that highlights commercial and technical value.
- Industry Representation: Represent the business at key industry forums, positioning the client as a leader in stability and control for inverter-dominated systems.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as a technical bridge between customers and internal teams, ensuring product roadmaps reflect emerging system challenges and opportunities.
Experience
- Education: Bachelors or Masters in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field.
- Specialist Expertise: Proven experience in power system dynamics and stability, particularly with challenges such as oscillations, inter-area modes, low system strength, and reduced inertia.
- Simulation Tools: Proficiency in PSSE, PSCAD, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, RTDS and related EMT/RMS tools for dynamic and transient analysis.
- PMU/WAMS Knowledge: Hands-on experience with synchrophasor data, wide-area monitoring, or oscillation detection is highly desirable.
- Smart Grid & Inverter-Based Resources: Understanding of DERMS, ADMS, EMS, and renewable integration challenges in TSO/DSO environments.
- Communication Skills: Ability to clearly communicate complex technical topics to executives and engineers alike.
- Commercial Awareness: Experience supporting sales teams or customer engagements where technical expertise was key to winning business.
