About the job Power Systems Technical Consultant
Solution Engineer Power Systems
Smart Grid Technology
Remote USA
Are you passionate about addressing the most pressing technical challenges facing the US grid, from low inertia and oscillations to large-scale renewable integration and NERC reliability requirements?
Do you thrive at the intersection of engineering expertise, customer collaboration, and real-world impact? If so, this could be your next big move.
The Company A Global Leader in Grid Innovation
Our client is reshaping how grids are planned and operated across North America and beyond. Their mission: deliver stable, resilient, low-carbon power systems that enable utilities and operators to meet Net Zero goals while maintaining compliance with stringent US reliability and interconnection standards.
With advanced analytics and dynamic stability solutions, including oscillation detection, PMU/WAMS-based monitoring, and inertia management, they are at the forefront of grid modernization.
The Role Solution Engineer (Power Systems)
As a Solution Engineer, youll work closely with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and grid operators across the US, applying advanced simulations and monitoring tools to help them solve stability and compliance challenges.
This is an ideal role for an engineer ready to step into a customer-facing, solution-driven position, with a clear career pathway toward senior technical leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Engagement: Partner with utilities, ISOs, and transmission operators to align solutions with technical and regulatory requirements.
- Dynamic Stability Expertise: Deliver presentations and demonstrations showing how to address oscillations, ROCOF, reduced inertia, and weak-grid issues.
- PMU/WAMS Analytics: Showcase how wide-area monitoring data can support compliance, oscillation detection, and real-time situational awareness.
- Policy & Standards Alignment: Translate NERC, FERC, and ISO-specific requirements into technical solutions that meet customer and regulatory needs.
- Proposal & Bid Support: Contribute to proposals and bids, ensuring technical content highlights compliance and reliability value.
- Collaboration: Work cross-functionally with product, sales, and engineering to co-design tailored solutions.
- Innovation Translation: Identify customer challenges and feed back into product strategy for new features and capabilities.
Experience & Skills
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field.
- Knowledge of US reliability standards (NERC, FERC, ISO/RTO interconnection requirements).
- Strong understanding of dynamic stability challenges: oscillations, low inertia, inter-area modes, and renewable integration.
- Experience with simulation tools such as PSS®E, PSCAD, or PowerFactory.
- Excellent communication skills, able to present complex concepts to both engineers and executives.
- Proactive and ambitious with the drive to grow into a Technical Lead role.
- Experience with synchrophasor (PMU) data and oscillation detection methods.
- Familiarity with ISO/RTO operations (e.g., CAISO, ERCOT, PJM, MISO, NYISO).
- Exposure to compliance studies, grid codes, and interconnection processes.
