Position: Senior Marine Ecologist

We are hiring for a reputable, multi-discipline environmental consultancy with over 30 years of experience operating in Scotland. With offices located across the country, they are dedicated to providing high-quality environmental solutions to our clients. We are currently seeking a Marine Ecologist to join the team and help them expand the marine offering.

The position sits within the diverse ecology team and part of the role will be assisting with ongoing terrestrial ecology work whilst the coastal marine projects continue to develop.  

Location:

This position is based in Scotland, United Kingdom. You will have the opportunity to work in a beautiful and diverse coastal marine environment, while also being a part of a dynamic and growing team within terrestrial ecology. 

Contract Details:

This is a full-time permanent position, with a standard working week of 35 hours. We value work-life balance and offer a competitive salary package, including benefits such as health insurance and professional development opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

- Write and deliver technical reports on marine ecology inputs

- Marine mammal risk assessments and licencing. 

- Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and Habitat Regulations assessments 

- Interpret data from intertidal and bed habitats surveys. Currently surveys are subcontracted, so there is an option to take a lead on phase 1 surveys. 

- Collaborate with other disciplines within the company to provide integrated environmental solutions

- Act as the marine specialist within the company, providing expert advice and guidance

- Identify opportunities for growth and development of the company's marine offering

- Keep up-to-date with industry trends and developments in marine ecology

Qualifications and Experience:

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field

- Minimum of 4 years of experience in marine ecology, preferably in a consultancy setting

- Strong understanding of marine ecosystems and their interactions with human activities

- Experience in conducting surveys and fieldwork in marine environments

- Excellent report writing and communication skills

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

- Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations pertaining to marine ecology in Scotland
