Job Description: Description of activities and key responsibilities of the function

Operate shovel and other heavy equipment to move, load, and grade earth, rock, gravel, or other materials.
Load materials onto trucks or hoppers for transportation.

Excavate areas to specified depths and dimensions as per site instructions.

Maintain proper slopes, grades, and surface conditions as per engineering specifications.

Inspect and perform routine maintenance on the shovel and associated equipment.

Adhere strictly to safety guidelines and operational procedures.

Keep records of equipment usage, maintenance, and work progress.

Communicate with site supervisors, equipment operators, and laborers to coordinate daily activities.

Check soil or material stability before operating in designated areas.
-
Ensure proper signage and barricading around operational zones.
-
Assist in minor troubleshooting and support repair teams as needed.
-
Clean equipment and maintain work area to ensure safety compliance.
-
Follow production schedules and daily work orders.
-
Identify and report any malfunctions or potential safety hazards to maintenance or HSE staff.

Participate actively in tool box talks and daily safety briefings.
-
Cooperate with supervisors and coworkers to ensure deadlines and productivity goals are met.

Take reasonable care for the health and safety of himself/herself and others who may be affected by their acts or omissions.

Cooperate with anything the employer does to comply with OHS requirements.

Comply with HSE requirements communicated in HSE induction, Procedures, and policies.

Lead as an example in front of workers by not violating any rules and correcting unsafe actions and conditions.

Attend Group Safety Meetings, HSE Campaigns & committee meetings as and when required.

Report unsafe acts and conditions to the HSE dept. using Intelex or booklets provided to you and monitor your targets and KPIs.

Do not carry out any task if you are not trained or authorized to do so, and ensure others under your supervision follow the same.

Participate in weekly or monthly HSE walkthroughs with your area HSE staff as per the plans.
Educational Qualifications & Certifications
-
Secondary School or University degree in engineering, construction, or relevant technical field.
-
Shovel/Heavy Equipment Operator certification recognized by relevant authority or training institute.

Proactive attitude toward equipment care and incident reporting.
Relevant experience

Proven experience as a shovel operator.

Understanding of soil types and excavation safety.

Ability to interpret and follow site plans and grading instructions.

Physical strength and stamina to operate heavy machinery for extended hours.

Familiarity with inspection, fueling, and maintenance protocols.
Function specific experience

At least 5 years of experience in the same role.
Industry related experience

3 years in pre-cast or civil construction projects.
Total Years of experience

7 years of overall experience in equipment operations.
