Role Overview:
As a Lead Technical Artist, you will be the bridge between the art and technical teams, ensuring art assets meet the performance requirements while maintaining exceptional visual quality. You will play a critical role in shaping the visual experience of a AAA game, managing the technical art pipeline, and leading a talented team of technical artists to deliver next-generation visuals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Technical Art Team: Manage and mentor a team of technical artists, ensuring high standards of work and on-time delivery.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with designers, artists, and programmers to ensure smooth integration of assets and efficient workflows.
- Asset Optimisation: Ensure all art assets are optimised for performance across multiple platforms without sacrificing visual quality.
- Shader Development: Design, implement, and optimise shaders to achieve stunning visual effects while ensuring good performance.
- Performance Monitoring: Collaborate with the programming team to troubleshoot and optimise assets for performance on all supported platforms.
- Tool Development: Create and maintain tools that streamline the art pipeline and improve overall productivity.
- Innovative Problem-Solving: Tackle complex challenges related to visual fidelity, ensuring cutting-edge techniques are used to push the games graphics forward.
- Visual Quality Control: Ensure that assets meet the studios high standards for art and performance, making sure all visuals adhere to artistic and technical specifications.
- Pipeline Optimization: Continuously improve workflows and pipelines to ensure the highest quality art production.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Experience: At least 5 years of experience in a technical art role, with a portfolio showcasing AAA game projects.
- Expert Knowledge: Extensive experience with Unreal Engine 4/5, Maya, Substance Designer, and other industry-standard tools.
- Shader Programming: Expertise in shader programming, lighting systems, and visual effects techniques.
- Asset Optimisation: Proven experience optimising art assets for real-time game performance across multiple platforms.
- Leadership: Strong leadership skills with experience in mentoring and managing a team of technical artists.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Ability to work with a range of departments to meet both artistic and technical requirements.
- Problem-Solving: A proactive approach to solving complex problems and driving innovation within the art pipeline.
- Passion for Gaming: A deep passion for the gaming industry, visual aesthetics, and creating ground-breaking interactive experiences.
