Job Summary:
The Soil Compactor Operator will be responsible for operating compaction equipment during road construction, earthworks, site preparation, and other infrastructure-development activities within the estate. The role will ensure soil and construction materials are compacted safely and consistently to required standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate soil compactors/rollers during road construction, earthworks, and site-development activities.
- Compact soil, gravel, and other materials according to required levels and site instructions.
- Follow designated compaction patterns, passes, and work areas.
- Carry out daily pre-start inspections and identify equipment defects or abnormal conditions.
- Perform basic operator-level maintenance, including checking fluids, tyres/drums, hydraulic systems, and lubrication points.
- Coordinate with grader operators, supervisors, and other earthmoving equipment operators.
- Avoid unsafe operation near slopes, excavations, personnel, and other machinery.
- Maintain machine-hour records and report mechanical faults promptly.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Certificate or recognized vocational/heavy-equipment operator training in Compactor/Roller Operations or a related field.
- Valid relevant machinery/operator licence or certification where applicable.
- Minimum 2–3 years of practical experience operating soil compactors, rollers, or similar equipment.
- Good understanding of soil and road-material compaction operations.
- Basic knowledge of compactor controls, hydraulic systems, and routine operator maintenance.
- Ability to follow levels, work sequences, and site instructions.
- Strong awareness of heavy-equipment and site safety requirements.
- Experience in road construction, agricultural infrastructure, or earthworks will be an added advantage.
