Job Summary:
The HSE Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring health, safety, and environmental policies across the organization. This role ensures compliance with national regulations and international standards, reduces operational risks, and promotes a strong culture of workplace safety and sustainability. The HSE Manager acts as a trusted advisor to leadership while supervising HSE officers and guiding staff on safe practices.
Key Responsibilities / Duties:
HSE Strategy & Compliance
- Develop, implement, and update HSE policies, procedures, and guidelines in line with local laws and global standards.
- Ensure compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Conduct regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
2. Safety Operations & Risk Management
- Oversee workplace hazard identification, incident reporting, and root cause analysis.
- Manage emergency response plans, fire safety drills, and first-aid readiness.
- Monitor contractor and subcontractor compliance with HSE requirements.
3. Training & Culture Development
- Design and deliver HSE training, workshops, and awareness campaigns.
- Build a safety-first culture across all departments through continuous engagement.
Provide technical support and coaching to staff on safe work practices.
4. Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Prepare HSE reports, KPIs, and compliance documentation for management and regulators.
- Recommend improvements to minimize accidents, environmental impact, and operational risks.
- Stay updated on HSE legislation and industry best practices to advise leadership proactively.
Job Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science or related field.
- Professional HSE certifications are highly preferred.
- 5 to 7 years experience in HSE management, preferably in logistics, construction, or industrial environments.
- Strong knowledge of Tanzanian labor laws, occupational safety regulations, and environmental compliance.
- Excellent leadership, risk management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to influence and build a safety culture at all levels of the organization.
