Job Summary:

The Project Director (Contractors Representative) serves as the primary liaison between the contractor and the client, ensuring that the renewable energy project is delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest technical, environmental, and social standards. This position ensures adherence to contracts, regulatory requirements, and international best practices while leading multidisciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle

Key Responsibilities / Duties:

  1. Leadership & Project Oversight
    • Provide strategic direction and leadership for all contractor teams (engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning).
    • Represent the contractor in executive meetings with the client, financiers, regulators, and key stakeholders.
    • Ensure alignment of contractor activities with the project execution plan and client expectations.
    • Approve critical project plans, schedules, and budgets.
  2. Contract Management & Liaison
    • Serve as the primary contractor representative to the client.
    • Oversee compliance with contract obligations, scope, quality, cost, and schedule.
    • Manage variations, claims, and contract change requests.
    • Monitor milestones and escalate issues where necessary.
  3. Project Delivery & Execution
    • Supervise engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
    • Ensure adherence to technical specifications, renewable energy standards, and safety protocols.
    • Monitor contractor and subcontractor performance and progress.
    • Drive efficiency, innovation, and best practices in project execution.
  4. Health, Safety, Environment & Social (HSES)
    • Implement and enforce robust HSE management systems.
    • Ensure compliance with environmental and social impact mitigation plans.
    • Lead community engagement programs in collaboration with the client.
    • Promote a strong safety culture and risk awareness across all teams.
  5. Quality Assurance & Control
    • Ensure the contractors QA/QC systems meet project specifications and standards (e.g., IEC, ISO).
    • Approve inspection and testing plans.
    • Monitor non-conformance resolution and continuous improvement initiatives.
  6. Financial & Commercial Oversight
    • Manage project budgets, cost tracking, and reporting.
    • Oversee financial transparency and compliance with client and financing requirements.
    • Optimize cost performance while maintaining quality and safety standards.
  7. Risk Management
    • Identify technical, operational, financial, and environmental risks.
    • Develop and implement risk mitigation and contingency plans.
    • Maintain risk registers and escalate critical risks to senior leadership.
  8. Stakeholder Management
    • Maintain relationships with clients, local authorities, regulatory bodies, and communities.
    • Ensure transparent communication with stakeholders regarding progress, challenges, and solutions.
    • Support local content initiatives, skills transfer, and employment of local workforce.
  9. Reporting & Governance
    • Deliver timely reports to contractor leadership and the client PMO.
    • Participate in steering committee meetings and decision-making processes.
    • Oversee lessons-learned sessions and performance reviews post-construction.

Qualifications & Requirements:

    • Bachelors degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Renewable Energy, or similar). Masters (MBA, M.Eng) preferred.
    • Must have a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in project management of solar and/or thermal, hydro and other sources of energy, with experience in the construction of PV plants with an aggregate peak capacity of more than or equal to the Project size, with at least one (1) PV plant more than or equal to 30% of the Project size.
    • Proven leadership of multidisciplinary project teams.
    • Strong contract management and negotiation experience.
    • Familiarity with renewable energy standards, regulatory frameworks, and HSE practices.
    • Experience managing transnational or large-scale infrastructure projects is an advantage.
    • Financial management and risk mitigation expertise.
    • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including community and regulatory bodies.
    • Fluency in English; additional local languages are a plus.
