Reports to: Tax Manager
Role Overview
The Tax Accountant is responsible for preparing and filing a variety of tax returns while ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The role involves collaborating with internal stakeholders to gather accurate information and support timely, compliant tax reporting.x
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and file federal, state, and local tax returns for both tax-exempt and for-profit entities, including but not limited to Forms 990, 990-T, 1120S, and 1065, as well as related state income tax filings.
- Handle the preparation and submission of monthly sales and use tax returns and other indirect tax filings in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate personal property tax and business license tax filings, ensuring deadlines and compliance obligations are met.
- Prepare real property tax exemption applications and oversee the processing of real estate tax payments to support tax optimization efforts.
- Review and analyze monthly community benefit reports and act as a resource for community benefit reporting to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Provide cross-functional or backup support within the tax team as needed to maintain operational continuity.
- Collaborate with internal teams and relevant stakeholders to collect and validate information required for tax compliance and reporting.
Qualifications
Licenses / Certifications
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
Education
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required)
- Masters degree in Business Administration or equivalent (preferred)
Experience
- At least one year of relevant professional experience (required)
- Exposure to tax compliance and/or tax consulting engagements
- Experience in financial reporting, including preparation of full sets of financial statements and general ledger accounting
- Prior experience demonstrating knowledge of standard accounting and tax department policies and procedures
- Experience preparing U.S. federal, state, and local tax returns (preferred)
