Software Engineer in Test Contract Role

Location: Christchurch, New Zealand
Contract Length: 6-12 months

We are looking for a technically sharp Software Engineer in Test to lead the setup of a Playwright-based test automation framework for a modern web application. This is a hands-on, enabling role focused on building the foundation and demonstrating workflows empowering other development teams to take ownership of test creation.

You will be based on-site in Christchurch, working closely with our web prototyping team in a fast-moving, collaborative environment. Once the Playwright framework is established, there is scope to pivot into evaluating automated testing strategies for our Golang-based end-to-end web workflows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement a Playwright test framework with backend mocking and coverage reporting
  • Demonstrate scalable test creation workflows to other teams
  • Collaborate with frontend engineers and technical leads
  • Explore automated testing approaches for Golang-based systems (optional phase)

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Strong experience in test automation (Playwright preferred)
  • Solid understanding of Angular web development
  • Clear communicator with a collaborative mindset
  • Comfortable working in a fluid, iterative environment

Bonus Skills

  • Familiarity with Golang and backend testing strategies
  • Exposure to AI development or testing in ML-driven environments
