Schedule: Monday–Friday, 0700–1530
Position Overview
The Phlebotomist provides specimen collection services for inpatient, outpatient, and
specialty clinic areas within the Dayton VA Medical Center. This role requires strong
patientcare skills, accuracy in specimen handling, and adherence to all VA and
laboratory safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection on adult and geriatric Veteran
patients.
Verify patient identity and ensure accurate specimen labeling.
Process, prepare, and transport specimens according to laboratory protocols.
Maintain phlebotomy supplies, equipment, and work areas.
Provide courteous, professional interaction with Veterans and clinical staff.
Follow all VA, OSHA, and infection control guidelines.
Document collections and patient interactions in the EMR.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Completion of a phlebotomy training program preferred.
Minimum 1 year of recent phlebotomy experience in a hospital or clinical setting
preferred.
Strong communication and patientcare skills.
Ability to work independently in a fastpaced clinical environment.
