Job Description
- Conduct in-depth electrical diagnostics using multimeters, oscilloscopes, wiring diagrams, and scan tools to pinpoint faults in lighting, ignition, charging systems, sensors, and body controls.
- Lead a team of 3-5 electricians and technicians, delegating tasks, delivering hands-on training, and performing quality audits to ensure accurate repairs and adherence to standards.
- Install, repair, and upgrade electrical components, including alternators, starters, wiring harnesses, modules, and aftermarket accessories, while minimizing downtime.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues in advanced systems such as ADAS, infotainment, hybrid/EV powertrains, and multiplexed networks, utilizing manufacturer service information and software updates.
- Collaborate with service writers, parts specialists, and other departments to assess electrical needs, prepare detailed estimates, and provide clear explanations to customers on repair scopes.
- Maintain compliance with electrical safety protocols, including proper grounding, insulation testing, and handling of high-voltage systems in compliance with OSHA and NHTSA regulations.
- Document all electrical work, including schematics, test results, and part inventories, using digital shop management systems to support warranty claims and operational efficiency.
- Identify opportunities for process enhancements, such as adopting new diagnostic tools or preventive maintenance strategies, and stay abreast of emerging technologies like autonomous vehicle wiring.
Candidate Requirement:
- High school diploma; completion of an automotive electrical training program or associate degree in automotive technology preferred.
- At least 7 years of experience in automotive electrical repair, with 2+ years in a senior or lead position.
- Master Technician status (A1-A8) or EV-specific credentials highly desirable.
- Proficiency with diagnostic equipment (e.g., PicoScope, Fluke meters) and repair of gasoline, diesel, hybrid, and electric vehicles.
- Work in tight spaces, and handle tools in various shop environments, including exposure to electrical hazards.
- Valid driver's license with a clean record and willingness to undergo a pre-employment drug screening.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in dealerships or specialized electrical shops handling luxury or high-performance vehicles.
- Expertise in ECU reprogramming, fiber optic diagnostics, and integration of telematics systems.
- Knowledge of blueprint reading for custom wiring and proficiency in soldering, crimping, and circuit board repair.
- Strong interpersonal skills for mentoring teams and educating customers on electrical maintenance to prevent future issues.
