Job Description

  • Lead and execute all phases of automotive painting, including surface preparation, priming, base coating, clear coating, and polishing to achieve flawless, OEM-quality results.
  • Supervise a team of 3-5 painters, providing training, guidance, and performance feedback to enhance team skills and productivity.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot paint defects, such as runs, orange peel, or adhesion issues, implementing corrective measures to minimize rework.
  • Select and mix paints, thinners, and reducers using advanced color-matching technology and computer systems for precise color replication.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe paint booth environment, adhering to OSHA, EPA, and company safety standards, including proper ventilation and hazardous material handling.
  • Collaborate with estimators, technicians, and management to review repair plans, estimate paint materials, and meet production timelines without compromising quality.
  • Stay current with industry trends, new paint technologies, and eco-friendly practices, recommending process improvements to boost efficiency.
  • Document work processes, material usage, and quality checks for accountability and continuous improvement.

Candidate Requirement:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in automotive refinishing (e.g., I-CAR Gold Class, ASE Painting & Refinishing certification) preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience as an automotive painter, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead capacity.
  • Proven expertise in spray techniques using HVLP and RP guns, with proficiency in waterborne and solvent-based paint systems.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive substrates, including steel, aluminum, and composites, and their impact on paint adhesion.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and work in varying temperatures/humidity levels.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Preferred Skills:

  • Leadership experience in a high-volume repair shop or dealership.
  • Familiarity with blending techniques for partial repaints and multi-stage finishes.
  • Proficiency in digital color matching software (e.g., PPG's Drawdown Machine or Axalta's tools).
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a commitment to customer satisfaction through superior workmanship.
