Our client is seeking a Director of Surgical Services to provide strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for perioperative services. This role oversees the delivery of safe, high‑quality surgical care, ensures regulatory compliance, manages departmental resources, and supports staff development. The Director partners with clinical and administrative leadership to achieve organizational goals related to quality, patient experience, efficiency, and financial performance.

Work Schedule: Day Shift (7AM Start) | 8‑Hour Shift | 24/7 Accountability

Responsibilities:

Leadership & Operations

  • Maintains 24/7 accountability for departmental operations.
  • Directs daily operations of Surgical Services, including OR, PACU, pre‑op, sterile processing, and related areas.
  • Develops and implements departmental goals, policies, and performance standards.
  • Ensures high‑quality patient care through evidence‑based practice and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Oversees staffing, scheduling, hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, and corrective actions.

Clinical Oversight

  • Supports clinical teams in delivering safe, effective perioperative care.
  • Ensures compliance with clinical standards, accreditation requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Collaborates with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize workflow and patient outcomes.
  • Provides guidance on clinical procedures, patient safety practices, and care protocols.

Financial & Resource Management

  • Coordinates internal and external audits.
  • Ensure operations remain within allocated resources.
  • Prepares, monitors, and manages departmental budgets.
  • Oversees supply management, equipment needs, and capital planning.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Leads initiatives to improve patient safety, quality metrics, and operational efficiency.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, standards, and organizational policies.
  • Monitors performance indicators and implements corrective actions when needed.

Qualifications (Must-Haves)

  • BLS upon hire.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • ACLS and PALS within six (6) months of hire.
  • Five (5) years of experience as a Surgical Services RN.
  • Leadership experience at the Manager or Director level. 
  • Current RN license (or eligibility) in the state of practice.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Proficiency in budgeting, resource allocation, and operational planning.
  • Strong communication, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities.
  • Ability to lead teams, manage conflict, and build collaborative relationships.
  • Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing practice, surgical workflows, and patient safety standards.

Preferred Skills:

  • Advanced degree (MSN, MBA, MHA, or related field)
  • Experience in perioperative leadership within an acute‑care environment.

Work Environment:

  • Occasional lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • May require occasional weekend or holiday coverage.
  • Onsite leadership role within a hospital surgical services environment.
  • Requires extended periods of standing, walking, and computer use.
