Our client is seeking a Director of Laboratory to provide strategic, operational, and clinical leadership for all laboratory services within an acute‑care environment. This role oversees regulatory compliance, quality management, financial performance, staffing, and service delivery across all laboratory functions. The Director ensures high‑quality diagnostic services that support patient care, provider needs, and organizational goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct recruitment, training, development, and retention of laboratory staff.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and high‑quality laboratory testing and reporting.
  • Lead and manage all laboratory operations, including clinical, technical, and administrative functions.
  • Develop and implement departmental goals, policies, and performance standards.
  • Monitor quality indicators, safety practices, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and accrediting bodies (e.g., CLIA, CAP, CMS, state regulations)
  • Oversee budgeting, financial planning, cost control, and resource allocation for the laboratory.
  • Maintain a positive work environment with strong employee engagement and low turnover.
  • Collaborate with clinical departments to optimize workflows, service delivery, and customer satisfaction.
  • Support growth initiatives, outreach opportunities, and client relationship management.

Qualifications (Must-Haves)

  • ASCP or AMT certification.
  • Strong leadership and team‑building abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Financial acumen, including budgeting and cost‑management.
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a scientific discipline.
  • Ability to lead teams in a fast‑paced, high‑accountability environment.
  • Knowledge of laboratory operations, regulatory standards, and accreditation requirements.
  • Ability to manage change, drive performance, and maintain service excellence.
  • Proficiency with laboratory information systems and healthcare technology.
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory or management experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Strong critical‑thinking skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently.

Preferred Skills:

  • Master's degree (MBA, MA, or MS in a scientific discipline)
  • 8+ years of leadership experience in a hospital or reference laboratory.
  • Experience with quality management, regulatory inspections, and operational improvement initiatives.
