Our client is seeking a detail‑oriented CAD Technician/Truss Drafter to create accurate floor and roof truss layouts for residential, commercial, and agricultural buildings. This role uses MiTek software (training provided) to design trusses, ensure structural feasibility, and support efficient production.
The ideal candidate has CAD experience, strong blueprint‑reading skills, and a solid understanding of construction or structural design principles.
Onsite | No Visa Sponsorship | No Relocation Assistance
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00AM–4:00PM
Requirements:
Truss Design & Drafting
- Interpret architectural and structural blueprints to produce accurate designs.
- Ensure designs meet plan specifications, building codes, and TPI standards.
- Optimize material usage based on inventory, cost, and production capabilities.
- Create floor and roof truss layouts using MiTek design software (training available)
Technical Problem‑Solving
- Identify design or engineering issues and propose effective solutions.
- Communicate design concerns to internal teams and document resolutions.
- Perform basic load calculations (tributary loads, concentrated loads, load transfer)
Collaboration & Communication
- Provide clear notes and documentation for production teams.
- Occasionally meet with job‑site supervisors to resolve design questions.
- Coordinate with design managers, sales, manufacturing, and shipping teams.
Quality & Efficiency
- Maintain organized project files and detailed job records.
- Ensure designs support efficient production and minimize material waste.
- Support continuous improvement and assist in training new designers as needed.
Qualifications/Must-Haves:
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Strong math skills and attention to detail.
- Reliable transportation and consistent attendance.
- General knowledge of construction or structural components.
- Understanding of engineering fundamentals and load paths.
- 1+ year experience with CAD, drafting, or design software (MiTek a plus)
- Ability to communicate effectively with architects, engineers, customers, and internal teams.
- All education levels will be considered; equivalent practical experience is fully acceptable.
Preferred Skills:
- 2‑year technical degree or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of TPI codes and local building requirements.
- Experience designing trusses using MiTek or similar software.
- Prior work in truss manufacturing, construction, or structural design.
Work Environment:
- Office‑based design role with occasional job‑site visits.
- Collaborative team environment with cross‑department interaction.
