Superintendent - Heavy Civil Construction

Our client is a well-established and growing heavy civil contractor with a strong reputation for delivering complex infrastructure, earthworks, road construction, and industrial projects across Western Canada. With a commitment to safety, operational excellence, and community partnerships, they continue to expand their project portfolio and are seeking an experienced Superintendent to join their operations team.
Reporting to the General Superintendent, the Superintendent will provide leadership and oversight for the successful execution of heavy civil construction projects. This position is responsible for coordinating field operations, leading site supervision teams, managing project schedules and resources, maintaining safety compliance, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Lead, mentor, and support General Foremen, Foremen, and field personnel.
- Coordinate day-to-day site operations and construction activities.
- Monitor project schedules, productivity, and resource allocation.
- Review and approve daily reports, timesheets, and expense submissions.
- Manage workforce planning, staffing requirements, and labor efficiency.
- Oversee project cost control, inventory management, and material utilization.
- Ensure compliance with company safety programs, policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in incident investigations and corrective action planning when required.
- Collaborate with project stakeholders including subcontractors, suppliers, client representatives, and local communities.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with Indigenous and local community partners.
- Resolve site issues proactively while maintaining project objectives and team effectiveness.
- Support equipment planning and coordination with fleet and maintenance teams.
- Provide regular progress updates to senior leadership and project stakeholders.
- Promote continuous improvement, quality standards, and operational excellence across all project activities.
Key Qualifications Include:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in heavy civil construction.
- Previous experience in a Superintendent or senior field leadership role.
- Strong understanding of heavy civil construction means, methods, and best practices.
- Experience with road construction, earthworks, mining, or large-scale infrastructure projects is considered a strong asset.
- Thorough knowledge of construction safety regulations, quality standards, and industry best practices.
- Proven ability to lead large field teams and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Strong organizational, planning, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficiency with basic computer applications and project reporting tools.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Ability to successfully pass a criminal record check, drug, and alcohol screening.
