Registrar – Surgery Division (Papua New Guinea)

Overview

The Surgery Registrar is responsible for providing clinical care to surgical patients, supporting surgical procedures, and managing emergency and inpatient cases under consultant supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for surgical patients
  • Assist and perform surgical procedures based on experience and supervision
  • Manage emergency surgical cases (stabilisation, workup, operative support)
  • Participate in ward rounds, clinics, and handovers
  • Work closely with anaesthetics, radiology, pathology, and nursing teams
  • Maintain accurate medical records and EMR documentation
  • Support risk management, protocols, and clinical guidelines
  • Participate in teaching, CME, and training of junior staff
  • Be available for on-call, after-hours, and weekend duties
  • Support outreach and corporate medical services across PNG

Requirements

  • MBBS (or equivalent medical degree)
  • Minimum 5 years' clinical experience
  • Valid medical license (eligible for PNG Medical Board registration)

Salary

  • Typically: PGK 12,000 per month
  • (Approx. USD 2,700 net, depending on exchange)
