Job Title: General Surgeon

Our client is seeking a dedicated and experienced General Surgeon to provide high-quality surgical care and contribute to the ongoing development of clinical services. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary setting, contribute to rural outreach projects, and participate in the growth of one of Papua New Guinea most prestigious hospitals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment to surgical inpatients and outpatients.

  • Perform and assist in surgical procedures aligned with qualifications and supervision.

  • Manage emergency surgical cases including initial stabilization and operative interventions.

  • Participate in surgical ward rounds, handovers, and clinics.

  • Liaise with nursing, anaesthesia, radiology, pathology, and allied health teams for coordinated care.

  • Maintain detailed and accurate medical records (including EMR).

  • Collaborate in the planning of integrated patient care, perioperative medicine, and risk minimization.

  • Support the development and implementation of risk management policies and clinical protocols.

  • Be available for after-hours and weekend calls for surgical consultations or emergencies.

  • Monitor and guide junior staff, ensuring quality care delivery and skills development.

  • Deliver field medical services for corporate clients and rural health projects across PNG.

  • Support and participate in Continuing Medical Education (CME), training programs, and quality control initiatives.

  • Participate in public outreach, promotional events, seminars, and health expos representing the hospital.

  • Uphold professional conduct and follow hospital policies at all times.

Requirements:

  • MBBS and specialization in General Surgery or equivalent.

  • Registration or eligibility for registration with a medical board.

  • Proven experience managing both elective and emergency surgical cases.

  • Strong team leadership, communication, and mentoring skills.

  • Commitment to medical education, quality control, and patient-centered care.
