Our client is a major global integrated energy company. They are currently seeking to hire a Middle Distillates Trader to join their multi-product trading team in Singapore. This role offers a dynamic opportunity to drive commercial performance through the trading of key refined petroleum products, including diesel, gasoil, kerosene, and jet fuel, across global markets.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing trading strategies, managing risk, optimizing supply chains, and enhancing the company's presence in Asia Pacific and beyond.
Synopsis:
The Middle Distillates Trader will lead the commercial development of the company's middle distillates trading desk in Asia Pacific. With strong experience in physical trading and a strategic mindset, the trader will work closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to identify, evaluate, and capture trading opportunities. This role suits a commercially astute and analytically minded professional with deep knowledge of the distillates market, who thrives in a high-performance trading environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Trading and Commercial Strategy
- Develop and execute profitable trading strategies for middle distillate products, including jet fuel, diesel, gasoil, and kerosene.
- Actively manage a trading book with global exposure, optimizing regional arbitrage and pricing spreads.
- Conduct in-depth market analysis to identify supply and demand trends, price movements, and arbitrage opportunities.
- Utilize hedging and other risk management tools to protect margins and manage exposure.
Market Development & Client Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with refiners, suppliers, customers, storage operators, and shipping providers.
- Negotiate and close spot and term deals, ensuring alignment with company goals and risk appetite.
- Expand the companys trading footprint in Asia Pacific, Middle East, and other growth markets.
- Represent the company in commercial negotiations and industry events.
Operations & Coordination
- Coordinate closely with logistics, operations, and finance teams to ensure smooth execution of trades.
- Oversee end-to-end cargo movement from load to discharge, ensuring operational efficiency and compliance.
- Ensure contracts, documentation, and settlements are handled accurately and in a timely manner.
Compliance & Risk Control
- Adhere strictly to internal compliance standards, trading limits, and regulatory requirements.
- Promote responsible and ethical trading behavior across all transactions.
- Report market insights and deal-flows regularly to management and internal stakeholders.
Compliance and Ethics:
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and business ethics codes.
- Ensure that policies are communicated and implemented within the team.
Required Experience & Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience trading physical middle distillates or across the barrel.
- Solid understanding of global refined product markets, including regional specifications and trading flows.
- Proven track record of managing distillates cargoes across diverse geographies.
- Strong analytical capabilities in market fundamentals, trading economics, and risk modelling.
- Effective communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in financial instruments and hedging techniques.
- Existing network of industry counterparts including suppliers, traders, and end-users.
- Fluency in English; additional language skills such as Mandarin would be advantageous.
- Willingness to travel as required.
