Electrical Controls Technician (PLC Systems - Oil & Gas)

Role Overview
CAC Staffing is looking for a skilled Electrical Controls Technician to maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC-based automated systems in oil/gas operations and other industries. This role focuses on hands-on diagnostics, instrumentation upkeep, and ensuring operational continuity, no PLC programming required.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshooting & Repairs:
- Diagnose and resolve issues in PLC-controlled systems (e.g., motor controls, safety shutdown systems).
- Use multimeters, oscilloscopes, and diagnostic tools to test electrical circuits, I/O modules, and sensors.
- Trace wiring faults and interpret electrical schematics/P&IDs.
- Instrumentation Maintenance:
- Replace, calibrate, and configure field instrumentation (e.g., pressure transmitters, flow meters, valves).
- Validate sensor/actuator functionality and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Commissioning & Startup Support:
- Assist in system commissioning, loop checks, and functional testing of new or upgraded equipment.
- Verify system readiness post-maintenance or installation.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain logs of repairs, calibrations, and system performance.
- Collaborate with engineers to identify recurring issues and recommend improvements.
Requirements
- Experience:
- 5-10 years in electrical controls, ideally in oil/gas or heavy industrial settings.
- Proficiency with PLC-based systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.)troubleshooting only, no programming.
- Hands-on experience with multimeters, loop calibrators, and schematic interpretation.
- Proficiency with field Instrumentation setup/calibration
- Familiar with PLC hardware
- Ability to adhere to schedule and communicate milestones to Project Management
- Skills:
- Strong mechanical/electrical aptitude for field instrumentation replacement.
- Ability to read P&ID drawings
- Ability to read electrical schematics
- Ability to make as built drawings/redlines
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Enet/IP,Modbus, HART) is a plus.
- Familiarity with OSHA, NEC, and ISA safety/performance standards.
- Familiar with IS devices/explosion proof instruments and panels
- Soft Skills:
- Detail-oriented problem solver with a focus on safety.
- Ability to work independently or in remote teams.
- Willingness to travel to client sites as needed.
